Cengage eBook Access Checklist for Students
Here’s a for using Cengage eBooks effectively across devices, especially when switching between a laptop and a mobile device like an iPhone. It includes information on how to use the Cengage READ app. (NOTE: The “text-to-speech” feature in the Cengage READ app is not available via the Canvas app!)
Instructions
Initial Setup
Access your eBook via the CHROME BROWSER through Canvas first to activate it.
Make sure you’re logged into your Cengage account using your school credentials.
Confirm your course is linked to Cengage (via MindTap, WebAssign, etc.).
On Your Laptop
Open the eBook via Canvas or the Cengage dashboard.
Bookmark the eBook or course page for easy access.
Download the eBook for offline use if needed (available in Cengage Read).
Use built-in tools like highlighting, note-taking, and search.
On Your Mobile Device (iOS)
Download the Cengage Read app from the App Store.
Log in with the same Cengage account used on your laptop.
Open the eBook from Canvas on your phone at least once to sync access.
Download the eBook within the app for offline reading.
Use the text-to-speech feature in the Cengage Read app (not available in Canvas app).
On Your Mobile Device (Android)
§ Download the Cengage Read app from the Google Play Store.
§ Log in with the same Cengage account used on your laptop.
§ Open the eBook from Canvas on your phone at least once to sync access.
§ Download the eBook within the app for offline reading.
§ Use the text-to-speech feature in the Cengage Read app (not available in Canvas app).
Common Issues to Avoid
Don’t rely on the Canvas iOS app alone to access Cengage content—it may not support all features.
Avoid switching devices without first syncing your eBook access via Canvas.
If the eBook doesn’t appear in the Cengage Read app, relaunch the course link from Canvas on your phone.
