Staff - Saving Downloads

NTC staff computers are now set up so that when you download a file from a web browser (like Google Chrome or Microsoft Edge), you will be asked where you want to save it. This helps keep sensitive information in secure folders instead of on your computer, and makes it easier to keep your files organized.

  1. Find a file that you want to download, and click download.

  1. File explorer will come up and allow you to select where you want to save your files. Usually it is the last save location that you used. Downloads shows for the first time.

Temporary files, such as software installations, or non-important files, should be saved to Downloads.

File explorer is open to the download folder, which shows that you can save the file to this location. The save button is located in the bottom right corner to the left of cancel in the file explorer popup.
  1. You can also select OneDrive as a save location. Navigate to your OneDrive folder near the top of the folders list on the left side, then click on your name.

If you want a file to be saved and backed up to the cloud, save it to your OneDrive folder.

In the file explorer popup, select the OneDrive folder location, which is the third option down from the left side in the image. It may be in a different spot in your file explorer, however, it will always be near the top of the list.
  1. If you do not have a pinned folder from the S drive in file explorer, then scroll down to This PC and click on it.

Files containing sensitive data or PII should be saved to the S: drive.

  1. Select Share (S:), then find your department folder, then the folder you want to save it in from there.

If you are not able to access a folder in the Share (S:) drive, please submit a ticket here.
