Requirements

At NTC, we recommend using Google Chrome on a device running Windows 10 or 11 to access your course in Canvas.

Please note: If you are using a different browser (like Firefox, Microsoft Edge, or Safari) or a different operating system (such as a MAC or Chromebook), your experience may vary. Some features might not appear the same, function as smoothly, or not work at all.

Recommended Laptop Specifications

  • Requires High-Speed internet connection.

    • Minimum bandwidth: 5 MB/s upload/download.

Note: if your internet is slower than the minimum speed, you may have
difficulties connecting to your
courses or performing coursework.

(Using phone data [Hot Spots] is fine, but beware of data limits)

  • Headphones, microphone, and
    camera may all be required for
    online courses.

  • Minimum computer requirements:
    128GB SSD or HDD (at least 50% free space)
    Intel i3 or i5 processor or AMD equivalent
    4GB Ram/Memory (8gb suggested)

Please note that some courses require different laptop specifications. Please see your course syllabi for technology requirements.

 

Need a Laptop?

There are multiple ways to get a laptop at NTC:

  • The NTC Campus Store sells laptops certified to work with appropriate courses.

  • You can check out laptops from the TimberWolf Learning Commons or through the iTEC.

  • The NTC Foundation gives away scholarship laptops.

More information on loaner and Scholarship laptops below.

  • You can also purchase a laptop from a third-party store.

Please see your course syllabi for computer specifications. We have some general recommendations below; they range from low to high end laptops.

Fall and Spring Hours: Mon-Thur 7:30am-7:00pm, Fri 7:30am-5:00pm, Sat 8:00am-12:00pm, Sun Closed

  • In-house laptops and desktops. In-house laptops may be used anywhere on-campus but cannot be taken home.

  • Offsite laptops are available to borrow for 1 day, 1 month, or the semester. Semester laptops require advisor’s approval, please contact your advisor.

  • You must have an NTC student ID Card to check out anything from the library.

Technology To-Go Kiosk

Location: Outside of Library

  • Check out 6-hour laptops or battery packs for on-campus use.

  • Enter your student ID number to the kiosk, then select laptop or battery to check one out. Must be returned by the end of the day.

  • Laptops available for use only in the STEM Center Area.

iTEC | (715) 803-1601

Location: Wausau Campus, room A134
Fall & Spring Hours: Mon-Thur 7:45am-9:00pm, Fri 7:45am-6:00pm, Sat & Sun Closed

  • iTEC laptops may be used anywhere on-campus, but they cannot be taken home.

  • Laptops must be returned the day they are checked out, before iTEC closes for the day.

Location: Center for Health Sciences (CHS) Building, Wausau Campus, Room 2003 (second floor)

  • Laptops available for use only in the CHS ARC room.
